During the celebrating of the Divine
Liturgy, Metropolitan HERMAN awarded
Rev. Stephen Evanina the privilege of
wearing the Kamilavka, a special head
dress granted to clergy in the Orthodox
Church as a mark of honor and merit.
A native of Peckville, PA, Father Stephen
was assigned to Assumption of the Holy
Virgin Orthodox Church in August of
2005, and has a wife Jessica and two
children, Jacob and Julia. "Having
been raised in a small town in rural
Pennsylvania, coming to Clifton was
definitely an adjustment for us, but
we are very happy to be part of such
a wonderful Christian community filled
with genuine, God-loving people"
stated Fr. Stephen. "The parishioners,
as well as the many people in the community
of Athenia have really embraced us throughout
the past three years, and for that we
feel honored and blessed." Monday,
April 21st marked the beginning of Holy
Week for Orthodox Christians throughout
the world. The Orthodox Church will
celebrate the Feast of Holy Pascha (Easter)
on Sunday, April 27th.
